Thanks for considering to the LeadDev Call for Proposals.

Our open CFPs can be found below with more details of the process, the support we provide and what topics we look for.

We'd love for everyone to be able to attend StaffPlus New York on September 4-5, 2024, but we know that some people's personal or financial circumstances will make this difficult. That's why we have set aside a number of free tickets as part of our scholarship scheme for those who would like to attend one of our conferences but would benefit from some extra support. In some special cases, we may also be able to cover travel and/or accommodation.

The scheme is open to everyone to apply but we would like to specifically welcome those who are underrepresented and marginalised in tech, especially people of colour, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and people with disabilities. We also welcome those who are facing economic or social hardships to apply.

Other factors we consider are:
   - Are you currently unemployed and looking for a job in the industry?
   - Are you looking to get back into the industry after a career break?
   - Do you have no training budget at your current company?
   - Are you changing careers later in life?
   - Do you work for a charity or non-profit?

What we offer?
   A scholarship place includes:
   - A free ticket to the conference including food, drink and after party.
   - An optional guide who will be there to help you get the most out of the conference, and to introduce you to new people working in your field.
   - A welcome breakfast to meet your fellow scholars and guides.
   - $40 for any incidental expenses you incur during your trip.

When will I hear back about my submission?
We run two deadlines for feedback on your scholarship place depending on your circumstances. If you need to apply for a VISA or need extra time to book travel and/or accommodation please select to hear back by May 10, 2024. If you’re local and do not need to apply for a VISA or make travel arrangements we will get back to you by June 7, 2024.

Why are scholars without VISAs being charged £20?
Unfortunately, previously we have had a number of scholars not attend the conference and fail to let us know before the event or at all. This means that we’re unable to offer their scholarship place to another worthy applicant from our waiting list. To overcome this and to ensure we have as many scholars attend the conference as possible, we ask scholars without VISAs to pay $20 when they are offered their place. Scholars with VISAs are in contact with us before the conference regarding their application, therefore, we do not charge them.
This charge is refunded once you attend the conference or inform us you can no longer attend by July 5, 2024.

Deadlines
Applications close for those who require visas on May 10, 2024
Applications close for all other applicants on June 7, 2024

Who will you be writing for or speaking to?

Our audience consists of all senior engineering folk, from tech leads to VPs and senior ICs. They are consistently technical (across a very broad range of technologies and industries) with many line managing people in their organisations. It’s also important to note that some attendees have just been promoted, or are trying to figure out what skills they need to progress into a more technical role.

What does LeadDev offer?

If we choose your article for publication, we’ll offer all the support we can in the creation of your article. After a first draft has been handed in, it will be passed to our in-house editor who will work with you to ensure that your article is the best that it can be.

We also pay an honorarium of $250 to everyone who writes an article for our site.

What subject should you focus on?

  • Team (anything related to people management, inclusive & diverse environments, hiring & retention, challenging issues etc.)
  • Tech (anything related to new languages, frameworks & technologies, trends & changes, scaling, architecture etc.)
  • Process  (anything related to the way your team works, Agile & other delivery methods, maintaining a high-performing team etc.)
  • Personal Development (anything related to improving leadership skills, maintaining your mental health, adapting to a new role etc.)
  • StaffPlus (anything on big picture thinking, making the right technical decisions, or influencing at scale)

How our article review process works

We review all of the article proposals on a monthly basis. Article proposals will be reviewed the month after they have been submitted. Article proposals are reviewed during the first week of the month, and you’ll hear from the team during the second week of the month.

For example, if you submit an article proposal in February, we’ll review your submission during the first week of March. You’ll then find out if your proposal has been selected for publication during the second week of March.

If you haven’t heard back from us, please give us some time before reaching out to enquire about the status of your article proposal - we might just be running a little late! If it has been 4 or more weeks, feel free to get in touch with a member of the team to enquire about the status of your submission :)

If your article has been selected, we’ll be in touch with the next steps and the timeline for you to write your article within (this tends to be 3-4 weeks).

If you have any questions about the article submission process, you can contact a member of the team at hello@leaddev.com
